Well-respected Aboriginal elder Janice Kennedy has been appointed to the Executive of CatholicCare Social Services - Diocese of Parramatta (CCSS).

In announcing the move, CCSS Executive Director Otto Henfling said he was delighted that Mrs Kennedy, currently CCSS's Aboriginal Catholic Services Team Leader, had accepted the invitation to the Executive group.

“Janice will bring to the group a keen analytical mind, years of experience and a deep and personal understanding of the Aboriginal cultures within Mt Druitt,” Mr Henfling said.

The Bishop of Parramatta Most Rev Anthony Fisher OP warmly welcomed the inclusion of Mrs Kennedy on the CatholicCare Executive.

“The Catholic Diocese of Parramatta has a significant number of Aborigines living within its boundaries and the inclusion of an Aboriginal woman elder on the CatholicCare Executive demonstrates the commitment that CatholicCare and the Diocese have in serving the Aboriginal community, as well as all the other communities within the Diocesan boundaries.”

Mrs Kennedy will continue in the role of Team Leader of Aboriginal Catholic Services and is looking forward to moving her team to new purpose-built premises at Emerton later this month.

Lee Healy appointed to Executive

Mr Henfling has also announced the appointment of Lee Healey to the CCSS Executive.

“Lee has been working in Mt Druitt for a number of years as a community builder and enabler,” Mr Henfling said.

“Lee brings to the Executive a clear understanding of and commitment to the need to network effectively and strategically to support disenfranchised communities.

“I look forward to both Lee and Janice contributing to the strategic decisionmaking of CatholicCare.”
