Married couples celebrating significant wedding anniversaries and their families joined Bishop Anthony Fisher OP for the annual diocesan Mass, Celebrating the Journey, in St Patrick’s Cathedral on 18 September 2011.

Hosted by CatholicCare Parramatta and the Cathedral Parish, Celebrating the Journey is an occasion to promote and acknowledge the vocation of marriage.

While the invitation was extended to all married couples to give thanks for their contribution to the Church through the faithful living out of their vocation, special acknowledgment was given to those married couples who had significant wedding anniversaries of 25 years and over this year.

In his homily, Bishop Anthony described Christian marriage and family life as “a school in virtue, a school in generosity and peace-making. Christian marriage prepares you to say yes to God, right to the end”.

“Thanks be to God that you have said yes to working in His vineyard that is your marriage and family and home. Your long years of marriage – some of you 25 years, 30, 40, 50, 60 and more – says loud and clear where you stand.

“Without being vain or presumptuous, you know that living your marriage well and doing good in your family forms you for something more. You are readying yourselves for the marriage feast of heaven and eternal life in the family of God.”
