Programs and Workshops

Below is a list of Community & Family Support programs that we run throughout the year.

Bringing Up Great Kids

A 4-week group parenting program developed by the Australian Childhood Foundation for a wide range of parents.

Helps parents to:

  • Learn more about the origins of their own parenting style and how it can be more effective.
  • Identify the important messages they want to convey to their children and how to achieve this.
  • Understand the messages that children communicate to their parents and how.
  • Discover how to overcome some of the obstacles that are getting in the way of being the kind of parent they would like to be
  • Learn about the importance of building self-esteem in children.
  • Discover ways for parents to take care of themselves and find support when they need to
  • Develop strategies to manage their parenting approach despite the mounting pressures on their time and role.

Keeping Children Safe

Keeping Children Safe is a 5-week program designed to promote the care and protection of children and young people.

The course aims to empower parents by increasing their knowledge and understanding of the issues involved in the abuse and neglect of children.

The course is an information and awareness group designed to help parents understand how abuse and neglect affects children and what they can do to prevent it.

123 Magic

Want to improve your relationship with your children?

Penrith Family Support Service is presenting a 3-week parenting skills program, specifically aimed at the Sudanese Community.

This program looks at the different approaches used in parenting and suggests some simple ways to manage children’s difficult behaviour and to assist children to learn to cope with limits and difficult emotions.

Triple P

Family Support Service is presenting a 5-week Triple P group program.

Triple P is a parenting program for all families that provides practical answers to everyday parenting concerns. Triple P helps you to:

  • Promote your child's development and communication skills
  • Manage your child's behaviour and emotions
  • Build a good relationship with your child
  • Take care of yourself as a parent

Engaging Your Adolescent

Penrith Family Support are presenting a course designed to assist parents with skills for resolving/or preventing teenage behaviour problems.

In this course parents/carers are provided with a model for working out:

  • What behaviour needs to be ignored
  • Coaching teenagers to consider the consequences of their actions
  • How to hold difficult conversations when agreements are breached
This is a practical how to guide for parents / carers.

Young Mothers Group

For young women under 25 years who are pregnant or have children. It is based on identified parenting/educational needs of the participants. This group is a mix of educational, parenting and mutual support.

Information and support for parenting and services in the community is available to the young women.

An Early Childhood Nurse offers a baby clinic every fortnight at the group for the convenience of mothers.

Circle of Security

The Circle of Security is a relationship based early intervention program designed to enhance attachment security between parents and children. Research has confirmed that secure children show increased empathy, greater self-esteem, better relationships with parents and peers, enhanced school readiness, and an increased capacity to handle emotions more effectively when compared with children who are not secure.

This program will help parents raise their children with love, warmth, and emotional intelligence by showing parents how they can connect with their child or children in ways that break old and sometimes destructive patterns of parents.

This program is a must for all parents.
